This week will be a bit of a review. Every fifth week in Spelling is a unit review. We will still have a test on Friday, but the words will be compiled from lessons 1 to 4. We will also use the week to review sentence types, subjects and predicates, and to work on writing skills. Our reading story this week will be from our novel, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Our class is using this novel in conjunction with our Storytown reading book.
Block 1 is listening to Mrs. Pigglewiggle as our read aloud, and Block 2 is enjoying Wonder.

Homework - Kai's Journey
For tonight's homework, students should reread Kai's Journey to Gold Mountain which is a story about a boy's immigration experience to California. It is a complicated story. We have discussed it in detail, but please set aside some time to reread it and talk about it at home. Here's the link to the online story:

Angel Island Photographs
We also completed Practice Workbook page 18 to go over the Robust Vocabulary words that will be on the assessment tomorrow, along with the comprehension skills and an extended response question. Students may use their books and vocab sheets to assist during the assessment.

Kai's Journey
This week we are reading Kai's Journey to Gold Mountain. It is about the 1930's experience of a young boy who travels from China to stay with his father in California, but first he must go through immigration at Angel Island.

Have a Great Weekend!
IF YOU ARE ABLE to send in an
empty toilet paper tube on Monday, we are doing a quick craft.
Kai’s Journey to Gold Mountain is our next reading story. It is a bit complex, as we learn about a boy
who travels to the United States from China with the hopes of being reunited
with his father. This historical fiction
story takes place in 1934 during a time when the U.S. did not welcome Chinese
immigrants. We will discuss the story in
depth in class before it is sent home for Tuesday night’s homework.
