Report Card Day!
Linking & Action Verbs
In Grammar we have been working on Linking and Action Verbs. Linking Verbs are is, am, are, was, were. Linking verbs connect two parts of a sentence. The dog is cute. Action verbs show motion or movement. He ran to the store.
Block 1 is listening to the read aloud Woof , and Block 2 is listening to Mr. Lemoncello's Library. Block 2 is working on the novel study Stone Fox.
Rocket Town is today. Report cards and Winter AIMS scores were sent home today.

Linking & Action Verbs

We read different stories about moving from place to place this week. We also worked on identifying characters, setting, plot and theme. This week we read "My Diary from Here to There" and learned about some of the struggles of moving, as well as the challenge of immigrating to a new country, from Mexico to the United States. We took our story test today. We are working on keeping our own personal narrative diaries this week.
Block 1 is listening to the read aloud Woof , and Block 2 is listening to Mr. Lemoncello's Library. Block 2 is working on the novel study Stone Fox.

Story Test Today

My Diary from Here to There
Homework - in Reading this week we read "My Diary from Here to There" and learning about some of the struggles of moving, as well as the challenge of immigrating to a new country, from Mexico to the United States. Enjoy the Weekend
Have a great weekend! Students worked hard this week and behavior was EXCELLENT. Spelling Unit 22 will be next week:

Block 1 played Reading Bingo with different dog and animal books. They completed a lot of fiction and non-fiction reading. Block 2 is currently reading the novel Stone Fox.
Today was the end of the second trimester. Report cards go home next Friday, the 26th. The 26th is also Rocket Town. Students must go home and can return if they are participating in Rocket Town. Yearbook orders were due today.

Animal Week - Dogs!
Students in Block 1 are working on a reading Bingo card by reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction pet books. Students in Block 2 are reading the chapter book Stone Fox. This book is a real tearjerker.
Our spelling test is tomorrow over Unit 21. These words end with suffixes such as -eer, -ian, -ant, -ent. We worked on Spelling workbook page 85-86 today.
For our read aloud, Block 1 is reading Woof, and Block 2 is reading Mr. Lemonchello's Library.
Class photo composites were distributed for take home yesterday. Friday is the end of the second trimester. Report cards go home on February 26. That's next Friday, the same day as Rocket Town.

Last night's homework was to re-read Because of Winn-Dixie found on Storytown pages 546-559. This story begins Theme 5 in our Storytown book. We discussed and reviewed the vocabulary used in the story. We completed Practice workbook page 121 as a review, and we took our story comprehension and vocabulary test.

Legends
We have been working hard to practice spelling words for tomorrow's test. It's a challenging word list, but I feel as though we have done lots of practice and the class should do very well on the test! Students completed Spelling practice pages 77-78 today, and we also played Spelling City games as a review.
This week we also continued to discuss different types of narrative stories, including legends. We've been reading different legends together in class, and students have the independent assignment of reading one story from each narrative genre by Friday. The genres include folk tale, fable, fairy tale, pourqoui tale, tall tale, and legend. Students also tried out their talents at writing a legend.
