Today's story is about the experience of a young boy, Kai, who is traveling alone from China to the United States. In this story, many Asian immigrants were coming to America in the 1930's. In the story Kai must prove to interrogators that he is who he claims to be. The difficult questions were used to try to catch people who might not be telling the truth about who they were. Kai is hopeful that he will be reunited with his father who has already arrived and is waiting for him in America. We read and discussed this story in detail today. Students should reread it for homework. It is found in the Storytown book on pages 113-130. Story sheets are due back tomorrow for the story comprehension and vocabulary test.
