Have a great weekend! There is a newsletter in your child's blue accordion folder. The newsletter lists the words for our upcoming spelling unit. There is also a raffle ticket that can be returned on Tuesday if you verify that the newsletter made it home.
Today we worked on the skill of "Character's Traits and Motivations." We also took our spelling test (they will be returned on Tuesday), and we completed some "All About Me" activities while practicing using complete sentences.
We are continuing our map skills in Social Studies and learning about latitude and longitude.
Have a nice, long weekend. Next week is an ART week.

Spelling Test Tomorrow
Students should be prepared for tomorrow's spelling test. There are 20 basic words worth 5 points each, and students have the option of trying challenge words for an extra bonus of 1 point each. Challenge words do not count against the score.
We worked today on poetry, fluency, character traits, and interrogative/declarative sentences. Students completed a grammar practice workbook page.
We continue to learn basic map skills to begin our social studies unit.

Story Test
Today we reviewed the story and vocabulary for "The Hot and Cold Summer" and took our story selection test. We also completed workbook page 5 in spelling in order to prepare for our test on Friday. Students have the homework assignment of practicing their spelling words each evening.
We had an assembly today about a fund raising project. Look for this packet in your child's blue folder.
We are also enjoining a read-aloud story in class. Block 1 students completed reading The Chocolate Touch, and Block 2 students are enjoying Charlotte's Web (my favorite book!).

The Hot and Cold Summer
Today we enjoyed reading "The Hot and Cold Summer" together in class. We discussed and practiced the vocabulary words from this story. Student have been assigned to reread this story tonight as homework for Language Arts. The story can be found on pages 27-41 in the hardcover Storytown book. Each student received a green sheet that requires a parent's signature verifying that the story was reread at home. Tomorrow's story test will include the vocabulary words on the green sheet. Students WILL be allowed to use their reading book AND the green vocabulary sheet for assistance on tomorrow's story test.
