Third Trimester Starts Today

This week we are on spelling Unit 22, and we are learning words with the prefixes of in, out, up, down.  Spelling Unit 21 had some rough grades. It was a difficult unit.  Please continue to practice any misspelled words, as they will reappear on our Unit 25 Review test in a few weeks.  Today we completed Spelling workbook pages 87-88.

In Reading this week we will be covering "My Diary from Here to There" and learning about some of the struggles of moving, as well as the challenge of immigrating to a new country, from Mexico to the United States.  If using the eBook version of this story, it is in Theme 5.  We are working on keeping our own personal narrative diaries this week.

Block 1 is listening to the read aloud Woof ,  and Block 2 is listening to Mr. Lemonchello's Library.  Block 2 is working on the novel study Stone Fox.  

Today begins the third trimester!  Rocket Town is Friday.  Report cards and Winter AIMS scores will be sent home Friday.

Next week we will read "My Diary form Here to There."  We will be learning about Mexico.

Block 1 played Reading Bingo with different dog and animal books.  They completed a lot of fiction and non-fiction reading.  Block 2 is currently reading the novel Stone Fox.  

Today was the end of the second trimester.  Report cards go home next Friday, the 26th.  The 26th is also Rocket Town.  Students must go home and can return if they are participating in Rocket Town.  Yearbook orders were due today.

Students in Block 1 are working on a reading Bingo card by reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction pet books.  Students in Block 2 are reading the chapter book Stone Fox.  This book is a real tearjerker.

Our spelling test is tomorrow over Unit 21.  These words end with suffixes such as -eer, -ian, -ant, -ent.  We worked on Spelling workbook page 85-86 today.

Class photo composites were distributed for take home yesterday.  Friday is the end of the second trimester.  Report cards go home on February 26. That's next Friday, the same day as Rocket Town.

Last night's homework was to re-read Because of Winn-Dixie found on Storytown pages 546-559.  This story begins Theme 5 in our Storytown book.  We discussed and reviewed the vocabulary used in the story.  We completed Practice workbook page 121 as a review, and we took our story comprehension and vocabulary test.

Today was a Library day.  We met with Mrs. Foley about Character Counts activities.

Block 2 read The Indian in the Cupboard, and we watched the movie today.  The class enjoyed it very much.  Block 1 has been working on Figurative Language, and we made some special Figurative Language Valentines that you should be receiving this weekend from your child.

Tuesday is also a Library day.
